The extension of the Buti family's farm is currently 13 hectares, mostly planted with olive trees (frantoiani, leccini, moraioli) and vineyards (Sangiovese, Trebbiano, Malvasia etc.) with a small part planted with woods and fruit orchards.<\/p>\n

With the re-cultivation of old olive trees and planting of young olive trees, the total number of olive trees will reach about 2,000 with an estimated production of 2,500 liters of extra virgin olive oil per season.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

A still large part, also recently acquired, will have to be reclaimed in the next few years and will be planted with vines typical of chianti classico. The excellent sunny position, the hilly altitude and the predisposition of the soil ensure a production of very high quality, yet limited in quantity.<\/p>\n

In the past, the most experienced farmers in the area knew that the area where the Buti Torretta farm is located was particularly recognized for the quality of the oil it produced and an area also well predisposed for vineyards and fruit trees.<\/p>\n

The property faces southeast, south, and southwest so the sun illuminates the land from sunrise until it sets behind the Pisan mountains toward the sea. Even on the coldest, sunny days, temperatures become pleasant with the arrival of the first rays of sunshine; in summer there are breezes circulating in the various directions according to the time of day and cooling the heat.<\/p>\n

The hillside has been transformed into terraces on which olive groves are located, many of these are supported by dry stone walls made by hand by peasant workers with the stones they found in the place, over the course of these years we have built and solidified low walls that were in danger of collapsing due to lack of maintenance in the many years past. In the areas of the land where rainwater flows there is a system of sewers, collection and regimentation of water that dates back more than 100 years,there are manully built works that represent a historical and environmental heritage to be preserved with the utmost care.<\/p>\n

The olive tree suffers from moisture and therefore these man-made works (terracing, stone walls, water works) ensure the collection of rainfall and its disposal in a well-organized manner that does not harm the growth of the plant but rather allows it to use the water it needs for survival. In addition, the terracing and walls allow the sun's rays to be taken over a larger area and ensure a more gradual release of heat, guaranteeing evaporation of water from the soil and greater plant health.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

On the Torretta Buti estate all cultivation is done by hand or by mechanical means and with natural products. No chemicals are used on our property.<\/p>

The olive harvest takes place from the beginning of October until the beginning of November<\/b>, at the end of each day the olives are taken to the olive press to be pressed the same day or within the next 24 hours at most.
